Printfest 2011

Printfest takes place on Saturday 30 April and Sunday 1 May 2011 from 10 am to 5 pm when work from more than 40 national and international artists will be exhibited.

Our Private View takes place on the evening of Friday 29 April from 7 pm to 9 pm.

This will be our 10th anniversary and we look forward to celebrating with you.  As part of our celebrations, we have commissioned Trevor Price as our Printmaker of the Year to create a large-scale, collaborative print, working with members of the local community.

Shetland Pony Races at Ford Park


Funniest family event of the year. Five races for Shetlands, three races for pantomime horses. Children’s funfair, stalls, side-shows and refreshments.

Harmonic Fields – 3 Day event on Birkrigg

Brought to us by Lakes Alive

Internationally acclaimed French artist and composer, Pierre Sauvageot (Lieux publics, France) will create an ‘interactive musical soundscape’ on Birkrigg Common, near Ulverston from 3-5 June.

500 Aeolian instruments (after the Greek god, Aeolus, keeper of the wind) will be installed for 3 days upon the common. The instruments will be played and powered only by the wind, which will create an enchanting musical soundscape which you can experience as you rest or move amongst the instruments.

Ulverston Carnival Day- 2nd July 2011

Parade and fun day for the family,  a tradition that has been going for over 100 years!

The parade starts on Hart Street at around 1pm and winds its way around the town.

There are general festivities around the town for the rest of the day, and a little fun fair at Ford Park.

Kadam Lamrim and Highest Yoga Tantra

The principal course of the 2011 Summer Festival is the Highest Yoga Tantra course entitled Accomplishing the Ultimate Goal of Human Life, taught by Gen-la Kelsang Dekyong.

Gen-la Dekyong will grant the Highest Yoga Tantra empowerments of Heruka Body Mandala and Vajrayogini and explain how we can quickly make progress to enlightenment through these practices.

North Lonsdale Agricultural Show 27 July 2011

Lots to do and see for all the family.
The show  brings together the best of the area’s cattle, sheep, horses and ponies, dogs, rabbits and poultry.

Spinning, wood turning, model trains, lace making, flour milling, and various types of weaving, beading and felting will also be on display.

The marquees will be full of children’s work, art, photography, floral art, handicrafts, cookery, horticulture and vegetables.Great day out at Bardsea showground…. let’s hope for good weather this year!

Ulverston Charter Festival

The annual celebration of the town’s market charter is a  fortnight of dancing, workshops, various shows, musical displays and much more.  The town’s charter was granted on September 11, 1280, by King Edward I.

Ulverston Lantern Procession 2011

Come and watch the legendary Ulverston Lantern Procession with us!   Hundreds of Lanterns process from 4 points of Ulverston and then meet in the centre and file to Ford Park where we will have a spectacular light display.

We will be posting information about how you can make your own lantern, join in the procession or help to support with the event.

Locally and affectionately known as ‘Dickfest’, the Dickensian Festival is my personal favourite.  It is a wonderful Christmas Market, full of stands and stalls, period dress, and a real step back in time.  Come and have a glass of mulled wine…. yum
