9.50am Coniston copper mines & Levers Water led by Martin Cooper. Get X12 bus at Victoria Rd (or car share, phone 01229 583524 to arrange). Return 3.30pm bus. Bring lunch. 6 miles 3½ hours hard.


Fri 2 May

10.30am Ulverston to Broughton led by Richard Scott. Visit some pubs on route. Return 5.07 pm on 511 bus. Bring lunch (or eat in pub). 9 miles 6½ hours. hard.
11am Health Walk to Swarthmoor Hall led by Raymond Willock, Feet First in Furness. Meet Kiosk, Victoria Rd. 2 miles 1 hour easy. FREE.

Saturday 3rd May


9.25am High Dam circular led by Christine Quiggin. Get X35 bus from Victoria Rd. Start at Newby Bridge bus shelter (GR 369863) at 9.45am. Return on 3.06pm bus. Bring lunch. 7 miles 4½ hours moderate.

10am – 2pm Walking & Alexander Technique led by Michael Hardwicke (015395 31781) at Owl Barn, Back Lane, first left off Church Walk (no parking). Cost £15. Phone to book.

1 pm – 3 pm Beach clean at Bardsea led by Matt Sanderson, Morecambe Bay Parnership. Get 12.56am bus 11. Meet opposite toilets. Return on 3.04pm bus.

2 pm Walk to Manjushri Buddhist Centre. Repeat of Sat 26 April.

Ulverston Music Festival was founded in 2003 by Anthony Hewitt, the Festivals Artistic Director.  The festival brings internationally renowned musicians to the Coronation Hall in Ulverston.

North Lonsdale Agricultural Show

30th July
Held at picturesque Bardsea showground, 2 miles from Ulverston. This is a great day in the countryside for all the family featuring Xtreme Trials Motor Cycle Display Team, Made in Cumbria and the Ulverston Swing Band plus classes for cows, sheep and many equestrian events. Free bus service from Victoria Rd, Ulverston to the show every 30 minutes.

Sopie Hedderwick is a textile artist who combines ancient weaving techniques with cutting-edge materials not usually associated with textiles.  Lights Out, exhibited in New York to critical acclaim will make their first stop on a British Tour right here in Ulverston!

The most renowned of the Ulverston festivals is the Lantern Procession, which involves hundreds of Ulverstonians creating lanterns and parading them through the town in winding rivers of light. Each year there is a new theme.  The annual event culminates in a lively display of theatrical performance and fireworks in Ford Park, to be organised by the community themselves for the first time this year.

Ulverston Fashion Week

The event includes a live fashion show, where models will become mannequins in the window displays of shops around the town to create an unusual display.

Ulverston Dickensian Festival
November 28th-29th
HUNDREDS of traders and locals will don Dickensian costume to recreate a traditional seasonal atmosphere for Ulverston's Dickensian Christmas Festival.  There will be hand bell ringers, jugglers, carol singing, a fairground, parades, children's activities and Santa's Grotto, amongst many other attractions.
