Paws for thought before you get a cat!

Mandy recently rescued 4 kittens from a woodpile.  They were 4 weeks old, scared, starving and dehydrated. They were probably abandoned. Mandy spoke to the RSPCA in Barrow, who have noticed an increasing number of people who dump their pregnant cats.  Mandy has successfuly re-homed her kittens to people who she knows will look after them well.

Mandy's top tips for responsible cat owners:

Prevent unwanted litters by neutering cats

Cats & kittens should be wormed & treated for fleas
They need  ID collars and ideally be micro-chipped
Water, food & shelter must always be provided

Take your cat to the vet if you have any concerns at all

They ask for a £25.00 donation for a kitten who has been treated for fleas, wormed & micro chipped for free & then they pay for it to be neutered when its old enough!
 
For low income cat owners, you can contact the RSPCA or Cats Protection & they can help you with the vet bill for neutering your cat. Remember you're not on your own & help is at hand.
