YMCA Lakeside
Here at Lakeside we have over 400 acres of private woodland on the South Western shores of Windermere with on site accommodation for over 200 people. We are one of the largest outdoor centres in Europe and offer learning through outdoor experience.
The YMCA has been here for over 50 years and our core mission has always been, and continues to be, helping young people build a future. We work with schools, youth and corporate groups from all over Europe in helping them achieve their learning and development objectives through outdoor activity. These objectives can range from getting everyone together for a fun getaway and helping build better teams, to in depth development goals linked with leadership, communication and improving confidence. Our qualified and experienced instructors make sure that all activity programmes are designed with each client in mind to provide everyone with a different unique experience.
We also have a variety of large and small group and conference rooms available for you to hold meetings, seminars etc., the most impressive of which is The Chapel; a large room with high ceilings that can hold up to 100 people with breathtaking views over the Lake.
At Lakeside we are committed to the development of people in outdoor education and therefore offer residential and non-residential outdoor skills courses throughout the year accredited by the British Canoe Union (BCU), Mountain Leader Trainer England (MLTE) and the Royal Yachting Association (RYA).
If you want to come to the Lakes and do your own thing, why not stay at Bell Cottage, our Helvellyn Mountain Base? Located 1000 feet above sea level on the slopes of the mountain, sitting proud over the village of Glenridding, Bell Cottage is a 19th century miner’s cottage. Sleeping up to 16 people with a fully equipped kitchen, large dining room and an open fireplace, Bell Cottage is a great getaway for you and your friends, family or your work colleagues. It is accessible by car with private parking and also boasts an idyllic camp fire and BBQ area by the stream with stunning views down the valley.
As an educational charity (charity No. 1074571), all profits made from programmes at Lakeside go directly back into developing the centre and subsidising youth programmes to ensure that this facility continues to grow and improve and help young people build a future for many years to come.
