Industries Around Ulverston

Marl has been based within Ulverston town boundary since the company was formed in 1973. Its first location was in a private house above Stonecross Gardens, which at the time was called Marl Park which is the source of the name of the company.

In the mid 1970’s the company moved to the National School which has now been totally refurbished by Welfare State International and is known as the Lantern House.

In 1985 Marl bought Stonecross Mansion, and although the company spent large sums of money maintaining the Grade II listed building and 27 acres of parkland, sadly the building has been severely vandalised since Marl left in 2001.

That was when Marl took over the Morecambe Road site which had been the home of Ashley Accessories since the 1930’s. Today this is called Marl Business Park and is home to a number of high technology companies including at the time of writing, Playdale, TMS, M P Engineering, Hecol Limited, E-Tail and Tritech Systems (who own their own part of the site).
